Whether you’re planning a destination wedding, your dream honeymoon, or a special anniversary trip, Susan Blume, CTC, and her team at Personal Escape Travel are here to help. As a Brides of Long Island Preferred Vendor, Susan brings over 35 years of experience in the travel industry. She is a certified travel counselor with Sandals and Beaches Resorts. Susan is eager to help you plan your next adventure.

Travel Passion

Susan developed a passion for travel early on. She began working part-time for a travel agency owned by her father's friend. Her love for travel intensified when her husband was stationed in Germany as a US Army ranger. While there, Susan was hired by the military. "I worked in the recreation, morale, and welfare department," she explains. "I planned day trips and tours for military personnel and their families." They explored cities like Prague, and participated in hands-on activities like pottery and glass-blowing tours. Susan found joy in being a travel agent while exploring new places.

When her husband returned to the U.S. for his next tour, Susan pursued culinary training. She eventually became the assistant manager at the Officers’ Club, overseeing daily operations and planning events for over 500 guests. "It was an interesting time," she recalls.

Back to Her Roots

Despite her military duties, Susan never lost sight of her travel roots. She ran a travel agency as a side business. After her husband left the military, they relocated to New York. In 1998, she established Personal Escape Travel, combining her travel and culinary backgrounds. "I specialize in destination weddings and honeymoons," she says. Her experience working for the military taught her how to manage logistics and keep everyone content. "I love meeting new people, and the world of travel is full of possibilities," Susan adds.

Turning Dreams into Reality

Planning a destination wedding can be overwhelming, but Susan is there to help from the first contact to your honeymoon's end. As a Sandals-certified agent, she has extensive knowledge about which resorts are ideal for different guests, including those with children or special needs. Susan takes time to understand your preferences and those of your guests. "I need to determine which resort will meet the couple's desires and the guests' needs," she explains. For instance, if a guest requires wheelchair access, she can recommend suitable resorts.

Once she gathers all wedding details, Susan suggests the best resorts for couples. She communicates with the resorts' wedding coordinators about availability and pricing. "I love that I'm not just planning a wedding," she emphasizes. "I'm facilitating the entire experience—from welcome parties to receptions and even brunches the next day." Additionally, she coordinates accommodations for all guests, tracks contracts, and assists with invitations and favors. Susan collaborates with local bridal vendors for extras like tuxedo rentals.

The Perfect Paradise

One of the most significant benefits of working with Susan is her personal experience. She has visited numerous Sandals resorts, so she can assure you of top-notch service. If children or teenagers will join your wedding, she recommends Beaches Turks and Caicos, known for its entertainment options for all ages. "It's also a short flight and has 21 restaurants plus a water park," she says.

For adult-only weddings, Susan suggests newer resorts on Saint Vincent or Curacao. "Both islands boast stunning secluded white sand beaches and many activities," she adds.

When it comes to honeymoon planning, Susan prioritizes what couples value. "Do they seek adventure, or do they prefer relaxation on an adult-only beach?" she asks. All resorts feature snorkeling and water sports. However, for those interested in scuba diving, Beaches Turks and Caicos and Saint Lucia are excellent choices. Saint Lucia offers three Sandals properties and exchange privileges for guests, allowing access to various restaurants and amenities. "Saint Lucia is one of my favorites!" she exclaims. "The island is full of adventures, from volcano tours to mud baths and hot springs—it's perfect for everyone."

Plan Ahead and Relax ~Enjoy Your Destination Wedding

Whether you are planning a destination wedding or honeymoon, Susan advises starting the planning process quickly. "Much like wedding venues on Long Island, destination wedding resorts fill up fast," she notes. "I have couples scheduled as far ahead as 2027." For honeymooners, she highlights that popular rooms, such as over-the-water bungalows or private rondovals, can be booked a year or more in advance.

Susan's biggest piece of advice is simple: "Trust me! Once you book with me, allow me to handle the rest. I take on the stress so you don’t have to, ensuring everything will be perfect."

For couples looking to create a customized experience, Susan Blume,CTC, and Personal Escape Travel are the partners you need. From destination weddings to unforgettable honeymoons, they will make your travel dreams a reality.
