Your Maui Honeymoon Itinerary: A Journey Through Paradise


Day 1: Arrive at Your Private Bungalow Hana Maui


Upon your arrival, you swiftly got off the plane and eagerly retrieved your luggage, excited to start your honeymoon adventure in Maui! Your rental car was waiting, so you will drive to your hotel located in the Hana area of Maui. After parking and checking into your private bungalow, which was situated on a hill offering vast views of the black sand beach and towering cliffs, its time for you to freshened up and headed to the pool to relax after our journey.

Our Honeymoon Suggestion: If you're planning to split your time between the Hana region and the West Maui or Wailea areas, consider renting your car at Kahului Airport and heading straight to Hana. Interestingly, the drive to Hana is more manageable at night since the headlights of other vehicles are visible on the curves. During the day, some turns are blind, making it more difficult to spot oncoming traffic.


Day 2: Exploring the Road to Hana


You enjoyed a delightful breakfast on the large outdoor balcony at the Hana hotel. It felt as though we were on a movie set, Jurassic Parks comes to mind, surrounded by lush tropical flowers and greenery. Today, you are driving the road to Hana. The journey was spectacular, with numerous waterfalls—a must-see experience. However, next time consider letting someone else do the driving. The hairpin turns can be quite challenging, with over 600 turns and more than 50 small bridges. It's best handled by the experts.


On your way back to your private bungalow, stop at a roadside farm stand to pick up some fresh fruit and homemade treats. Make sure you use a bowl when cutting the fruit or you have to clean the floor after slicing an orange, but you can't get fresher than that!


Our honeymoon advice: To truly appreciate the scenery, think about taking a guided Road to Hana tour with a private driver. Tour companies and buses have reserved parking at several key attractions, which might make it difficult for you to stop and park whenever you wish to explore the numerous waterfalls.



Day 3: Black Sand and Secluded Beaches


Today, you venture out to explore Waianapanapa State Park, renowned for its volcanic jagged cliffs and black sand beaches. It is an experience unlike anything my husband and I had ever encountered. The landscape felt as alien as the moon, yet it was both beautiful and tranquil. The hiking trails are well-marked and mostly easy to navigate. Swimming is excellent, but exercise caution as the waves can become quite high.


After exploring Waianapanapa State Park, you set off on your next adventure to a very secluded beach. You will feel like you are the only people on the island of Maui. These pictures were taken at Koki Beach on a Saturday, and my husband and I were there for over an hour without encountering anyone. Tonight, consider having dinner at the Hana Ranch restaurant, which is very casual and laid-back but offers high-quality, locally sourced food.

Day 4: The Other Side of Maui


This morning, you are packing up and bidding farewell to the Hana area of Maui. You are already making notes to definitely return, as the slow pace and raw beauty of nature here are unparalleled. On your way to the Hyatt Regency Maui, you must stop at the scenic overlook at Peahi, a world-renowned surfing destination known for its massive waves.


When you're in this area, try to plan ahead to dine at Momma's Fishhouse. If you can't secure a reservation, a great alternative is the Paia Fish Market. Paia is a charming, artsy town with numerous local craft shops and delightful small restaurants offering farm-to-table meals. Once you managed to pull yourselves away from your oceanfront balcony room with views of Lanai, headed downstairs to enjoy the pools and beach. Be sure to visit or swim up to the grotto bar for a cocktail.


Don't forget to stop by the lobby to meet the resident penguins. The Hyatt excels in caring for and educating guests about the penguins, parrots, and all the wildlife at the resort.


For dinner, we suggest Son's Steakhouse within the resort. It offers a very elegant, five-star, white-glove romantic dining experience with tables overlooking a lake with swans and waterfalls. Be sure to request a lakeside table when making your reservations.

Day 5: Snorkeling with Turtles and Whales at Molokini Crater


You will need to depart early this morning for a brief drive from the hotel to join your snorkeling tour. The drive is stunning, with the elevated road offering clear views of humpback whale schools swimming in the waters below. Each year, humpback whales migrate between Alaska and Hawaii, and they are truly remarkable to see.


Your journey led you to Molokini Crater, a crescent-shaped island that can only be reached by boat. While enjoying a light breakfast, your marine naturalists explained and will show you photos of the wildlife you are about to see. As you approach your snorkeling spot, the captain will explain that the boat had to slow down due to the many humpback whales swimming nearby. It's an unforgettable experience..



Alternative Suggestion for Your Maui Honeymoon: If snorkeling or boat trips aren't your preference, consider a sunrise excursion to the 10,023-foot summit of Haleakala National Park. This tour is extremely popular and sells out quickly, so be sure to plan ahead as it is an experience not to be missed.


Day 6: Pineapple Wine and Luau


After an exciting adventure yesterday, you may opt for a more leisurely day at the resort today. Following breakfast at the resort, we enjoyed the pristine waters and soft, powdery sand of Ka'anapali beach. In the afternoon, venture out for lunch and a pineapple wine tasting.


Enjoy a scenic drive to Maui Wine for a gourmet charcuterie tasting, which includes a variety of pineapple wines. This relaxing experience comes highly recommended. You enjoyed the beautiful drive back, and after a short nap, you went downstairs for a traditional Hawaiian Luau. The Luau offered a concise yet engaging history of the Hawaiian islands and their culture. Food and drinks were included and were excellent. However, since this is a very popular event, be sure to book tickets well in advance as it often sells out.
