Occasional Travelers vs. Frequent Travelers  

A premium travel rewards card often provides the most value to frequent travelers. “If you’re mostly only traveling solo, doing only one or two trips a year, then...you’re not redeeming as much,” said Susan Blume, CTC, VTA, and founder of Personal Escape Travel Luxury Travel Agency. Frequent travelers, however, can easily justify high annual fees by consistently using travel perks.

Airline Loyalty vs. Flexibility - finding the right travel rewards card

Your home airport is a major factor in finding the right travel rewards card; choosing between a specific airline card and a general travel rewards card. A co-branded card often provides strong value if you live near a hub dominated by one airline. However, locking yourself into one airline’s ecosystem limits your ability to shop for the best fares. “You’re never going to be able to accumulate enough miles on one airline to redeem,” Blume noted. “So then you’re better off with a bank card.”
